Artist Hillary White (previously featured here) has created an extensive and completely awesome series of paintings, entitled Pop Reinterpretation, for which she beautifully recreates painting by the Old Masters depicting a wide variety of pop culture icons in place of the original subjects.

R2-D2 becomes Francois-Xavier Fabre’s Portrait Of A Man, Kermit the Frog becomes Frans Hals’ Portrait of a Young Woman, Optimus Prime becomes Anthony Van Dyck’s Self Portrait With Sunflower, and so on.

Hillary has painted so many of these wonderful portraits, it’s an almost unbearably awesome accomplishment. If you like these even half as much as we do, check out the entire Pop Reinterpretation gallery to see the rest.

Cosplay Wednesday: Poison Ivy & More

Yet again a cosplay I have done before, but I updated the bodice and shoes! I didn’t go with a green skin Ivy this time as I didn’t want to ruin my friends tub since she was nice enough to host my husband and I while we were in town. So, voila, my version of Ivy 2.0!

I don’t have many “pro” type shots of Ivy quite yet. I’m waiting for some back from photographers I ran into while at WonderCon. For now, here are these!

I went to WonderCon on Saturday with my friend Betty who dressed up as an Imperial Officer from Star Wars - a fem version. ;) Some thought it was weird that Ivy was rollin around WonderCon with an Imperial Officer but we both like to do things the way we want to - even if it means cosplaying from different universes while hanging out!

Anyhow, here are some shots of our adventures that day. Again, hopefully some pro ones will be sent to me soon and I’ll share those when the time comes. :)

Thanks to allthatsepic.com for that first shot!

p.s. that drink in my photo is a jalapeño margarita from the nearby hotel and not only did it match, it was delicious.

As I was trying to avoid doing any serious work today, I came across the line art I drew for Heroescon back in 2009. Previously The incredibly talented David Baron colored this for his website as a tutorial on coloring. Since i’ve improved quite a bit as a colorist I decided to tackle it myself, without looking at Dave’s coloring.
